What is it? A fanpic for Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin books. If you've read them, I will say this - wombat. Dear fans, YOU KNOW what I'm referring to!
If Captain Jack Aubrey was a child, just old enough to teeth and living back home with his father the General, this may well have happened, foreshadowing a time when his best dress hat would be eaten by Doctor Maturin's ground dwelling marsupial. As follows:

'Now, sir,' cried the Captain, striding into the great cabin, a tall, imposing figure. 'Now, sir,' - addressing the wombat, one of the numerous body of marsupials brought into the ship by her surgeon, a natural philosopher - 'give it up directly, d'ye hear me, there?'
The wombat stared him straight in the eye, drew a length of gold lace from its mouth, and then deliberately sucked it in again.
'Pass the word for Dr Maturin,' said the Captain, looking angrily at the wombat: and a moment later, 'Come now, Stephen, this is coming it pretty high: your brute is eating my hat.'
'So he is, too,' said Dr Maturin. 'But do not be so perturbed, Jack; it will do him no harm, at all. His digestive processes -,"

Of course I am dreadfully shamed to have made such a comic. Fat chibi babies! History of a character that didn't happen! A joke so obscure only a deep dyed O'Brian fan will know it! But there you are. Some things have to be expressed.

Well, my first upload. Also, my first attempt at a fanpic, as well as the first time I've used Photoshop to make a pic, while at the same time attempting to learn Wacom tablet. Lotta firsts... Yes yes it took ages to do. Learning curve, right? Tears and sweat.
When fandom eats your brain, this is what happens. Thanks to Patrick O'Brian for his Aubrey/Maturin series, to sadynax for her Holmes and Watson babies, which crushed me with cuteness, to Captain Hobel for the wombat pic which gave me a first pose reference, and to folks over at perfect_duet, as well as Jamie and Marixsa for planting the dread seeds of creativity in my stodgy head.
